I'm seeking assistance for my son who has complications from TBI and PTSD. The brain injury from RPG percussions cause alterations in his brain chemistry leading to changes in his personality on a five-six month cycle. He is not manic-depressive. From the information I've read, he needs to be seen by a neuro-psychologist, but I don't have a clue on how to proceed with arranging for that in the VA system. We have been struggling with this for four years now. His stressors occur in late Sept./Oct and last until Feb.

I was involved in a serious vehicle accident July 2009. I requested the ambulance take me to the VA Hospital because I have no medical insurance but I am a Veteran. Instead, they took me to the OU (University of Oklahoma) Medical Center because the VA Hospital did not have a trauma center and the ambulance attendants decided the emergency room at the VA Hospital was not sufficient to treat me.

I am now facing extensive medical bills as a result and am wanting to know if there is any way to receive Veterans Administration assistance in covering these expenses.

Being a Veteran, I have earned the benefit but do not know how to obtain hospitalization expense coverage (since the VA Hospital did not - in the evaluation of the emergency medical personnel - have an adequate treatment facility available.

Please Help!

Hello everyone. I am hoping that someone may have some insight on a specific program for vets with a service related disability. The name of the program is VOICE. I have not been able to find any information on the subject. This is what I know... Vets that have suffered a disability and meet a disability % level 30-50-100% etc. are able to be on this program. In many cases the veteran has been or is currently homeless, has or had a substance abuse problem, may have been incarcerated etc. While they can independantly live and take care of themselves to a certain level, their circumstances are such that they need to be monitored by a VA case manager and the VA pays for them to stay at "Adult Foster Care Facilities" or some other Assisted living arrangement. The VA will also pay the veteran a stipen to live, based on their progress and needs in the program. This program is associated in relation to MHICM (Mental Health Intensive Case management). Any help that anyone may provide would be helpful.
I am a veteran looking into providing care for these individuals. Again, thank you for any help you may provide.

Following the attack, on December 8th, 1941, FDR gave the following speech:

"Mr. Vice President, Mr. Speaker, Members of the Senate, and of the House of Representatives:
Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 — a date which will live in infamy — the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.

The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific.

Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in the American island of Oahu, the Japanese ambassador to the United States and his colleagues delivered to our Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message. While this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or of armed attack.

It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time, the Japanese government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. I regret to tell you that very many American lives have been lost. In addition, American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.

Yesterday, the Japanese government also launched an attack against Malaya.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked Guam.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands.

Last night, the Japanese attacked Wake Island.

This morning, the Japanese attacked Midway Island.

Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday and today speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation. As commander in chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense. But always will our whole nation remember the character of the onslaught against us.

No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.

I believe that I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make it very certain that this form of treachery shall never again endanger us.

Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger.

With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph — so help us God.

I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese empire."

I am a regestered AO Combat Veteran, C-2/501 101st Airborne Infantry, who was exposed & sprayed by 2 C-123's, which I documented, when I regestered, and was in the I Corp area of Vietnam, DMZ, and all documented heavy Combat areas of 1969-1970. My question is, I appealed my rating, and have 60 days as of 7/28/09, for my skin & scares, which is documented & denied on my rating back in 1971, but was given a rating of 10%, 2 years ago. I was he seen by the VA, on 7/28/09 for annual check up and to my surprise this was tied to my apppeal & was told by the intake nurse who took my blood pressure with a reading of 132/80, who stated " tell the doctor your reading of 132/80, you see the chart on the wall, 130/80 is diabetes". I was called in by the doctor, and was told to have a seat, I stated to him " I am concerned by what the nurse told me to tell you that I have a reading of 132/80, and that 130/80 is diabetes". He stated "don't worry, you don't have it," he took my blood pressure, and it was 128/80. He then examined my ankles, and told me" I won't give you medication now, if I do it will destroy your liver." I then asked for a print out of my reading& results. As I recall, he said the same thing, in last year's visit. So, as what I see they don't want to say, I have Diabetes. But, the lab work says different than what he's telling or not telling me! I will now add Diabetes as a claim. Is this the norm, that we have to add it ourselves instead of staff who examine you as a claim? Further, I am not happy with my representative, who is the State of California Veterans, with my experience in working in local government, they are all the same, I had to state to them, that it was in writing that my skin disorder was denied back in 1971, and now I am being compensated for it in 2007, when I was awarded 10%, this isn't to say that when I was examined back in 1971, I was told by the doctor that it was only 20% not 100%. What I assumed back then you had to be rated 100%, and you couldn't be compensated if you had less than 100%.

Obama Hails New Education Benefits for US Veterans (2 replies)

President Barack Obama has hailed the launch of a federal program that pays college tuition for U.S. veterans who have served in the armed forces since the September 11 terrorist attacks of 2001. The initiative updates and revamps a program that began during the World War II.

The new GI bill went into effect at the start of the month. It pays tuition, living expenses and other costs at U.S. public universities and colleges for those with a minimum of 90 days of active duty service. The percentage of costs paid depends on the length of active duty. Funds can also be applied to tuition at private universities, which typically charge more than state-run institutions. Benefits can be accessed for 15 years, and may be transferred to veterans' family members. Total cost of the bill has been estimated at $75 billion.

NC - Veterans say benefits are being delayed (no replies)

A group of veterans is calling on county officials to improve services offered to an estimated 13,000 veterans in Rowan County.

They contend the county's veterans services officer isn't getting the job done, causing delays in veterans getting benefits. And with more coming home from wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, they fear the situation will get worse.

There was advice and counseling provided at Fort Dix by family support groups and the Veterans Administration, but nothing like the $3 million effort being done by the New Jersey Army National Guard to ease the transition of the 2,800 troops that returned home in June. Today thousands of soldiers and family members gathered in their units at the Atlantic City Convention Center as part of the Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program, a national initiative that consists of a series of mandatory meetings for Army National Guard and Reserve troops and families.

By taking advantage of the VA’s loan guarantee program, you can now afford to buy a home in the Bay Area. Vets will have to stick to the East Bay to get 100% financing (San Francisco and San Mateo Counties are still a little pricey) on a home but there are a surprising number of great homes available at affordable prices.
I HAVE THE PROBLEM WITH THE PRIORTY 8 VETS COMING IN. THAT WAS A GROUP THAT WAS LEFT OUT BECAUSE OF HIGHER INCOME, INVESTMENTS, ABILITY TO PAY, ETC. NOW SICE THEY ARE ALLOWED TO COME IN THE VA NEEDS A TOTAL REVAPPING BEFORE, BUT NOW IT REALLY NEEDS TO GET ON THE WAGON. I GO 55 MILES ONE WAY TO MY CLINIC TO SEE MY PRIMARY IN A BRAND NEW FACILITY, BUILT MAYBE LESS THAN 5 YEARS AGO, BUT HAVE TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL TO GET EXRAYED. THAT'S AN EXTRA 85 MILES ONE WAY. THAT IS RIDICULES. WHEN YOU BUILD SOMETHING NEW INCLUDE WHAT YOU NEED PLUS PERSONNEL. NOT THE ONES WHO WANT TO SIT THERE AND POLISH THEIR LONG CURVED FINGER NAILS, TALK ON CELL PHONES, OR JUST GET UP AND GO " TAKE A BREAK" WHEN YOU WALK IN.

It was D-Day — June 6, 1944 — when an armada of Allied ships, planes and men departed the southern coast of England for France. Their goal: Break through Hitler's impenetrable "Atlantic Wall," liberate France and the continent from the Third Reich
